Along with summer weather comes gatherings, BBQ's, pool parties, celebrations... just about anything can be good reason to chill, relax and enjoy a refreshing cocktail, responsibly, of course!
But the last thing we want to do is load up on empty calories and most importantly, avoid any sort of hangover. I'll be the bearer of bad news, for just a sec, hear me out. Most frozen drinks like Daiquiris, Mai Tais and Pina Coladas are loaded with sugar. The thought of packing layers on that you did so well in shedding after the holidays should be reason enough to read on...
Thank you :)
May I suggest tequila, gin or mezcal since they have the lowest sugar/carb content? When paired with something like soda water, these spirits create a refreshing cocktail on a warm summer day.
I love this trick too: to prevent dehydration, simply alternate a glass of water between drinks. Bonus! You will be less likely to regret your decisions the next day!
(Speaking from experience and I know I'm not alone.)
So since I'm a tequila gal, here's is a fun, refreshing recipe my friend shared that I'd love to pass on. What’s even better about this recipe is that you can make it with or without the alcohol. Yum!
Ingredients: • 2 cups diced fresh or frozen mango • ¾ cup fresh lime juice (from about 6 limes) • ½ cup honey • ⅓ cup your favorite tequila • ¼ tsp. chili powder (if you like spice) NOT MY JAM- so you can have mine, :) • 1 Tbsp. coarse or flaky salt, for garnish
Instructions: 1. In a blender, combine the mango, lime juice, honey, tequila, ½ tsp. chili powder, and ¼ cup water. Blend on high until the mixture is fully combined and smooth. 2. Pour the mixture into ice pop molds and freeze for at least 8 hours or until ready to serve. 3.When ready to serve, combine the salt and remaining ½ tsp. chili powder in a shallow dish. Remove the margarita pops from the molds one at a time and gently press the sides of the pops into the seasoned salt to lightly coat.
VOILA! A frozen delight for any "fun in the sun" gathering!
Enjoy your summer, drink responsibly and keep it light!
